The Return of CicLAvia to Los Angeles

April 18, 2011, 6 a.m.

The streets of downtown Los Angeles were once again filled with bicyclist, runners, walkers, skateboarders, and in-line skaters that wanted to enjoy the car-free event known as CicLAvia.

The event drew an estimated 130,000 people to the 7.5 miles car-free event. The route took participants from Boyle Heights to East Hollywood.

Also within MacArthur Park, people were provided with array of free services. The free services ranged from free cholesterol screenings, free bike-repair services provided by CicLAvia volunteers, to free bags and energy bars.

“This is awesome. We should have more events like this throughout the year.” said Reyes Bravo, 13, of South Central Los Angeles.

Indeed, CicLAvia will be hosting two more events this year. The next events will take place on July 10th and October 9th.

For the last event, members and supporters of CicLAvia are trying to extend the route to South Central Los Angeles.

If anyone is interested in participating and supporting the route extension to South Los Angeles, they can attend the meeting on 4/20/11 at 6:00 pm. The meeting will take place at All Peoples Christian Center- 822 E. 20th St., Los Angeles, CA 90011.
